Profile

Background

By virtue of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Administrative Orders No. 6 and 19 series of 1991 which mandated the implementation and operationalization of the DA’s Rationalized Research and Extension Facilities, the Dr. Manuel L. Roxas Regional Integrated Agricultural Research Station (DMLRMRIARS) in Marawoy, Lipa City became the seat of the R & D Center of the DA Regional Field Unit No. IV. The Center was then named as the Southern Tagalog Integrated Agricultural Research Center (STIARC).

At present, STIARC’s organization is complemented by the Research Division personnel and by the Administrative staff of Lipa Agricultural Experiment Station. The Chief of Research Division was designated as the Center Manager who provides leadership in its operations.

Under STIARC are three Research Outreach Stations (ROS) and eight attached facilities, namely:

Vision

A dynamic Center that effectively responds to the needs of the agriculture sector in Region IV-A (CALABARZON) in support to the goals and objectives of AFMA through excellence in Research and Development.

Mandate

The Center is responsible for strengthening the region’s agricultural R & D/E systems for effectiveness and efficiency. Its efforts are focused on the upliftment of the quality of life of small farmers and on sustainability of resource base.

Objectives


. To establish and operationalize a regional R & D/E network to include the
LGUs;
· To orchestrate the formulation of R & D program/project/activities in the region
on the context of one program, one system concept;
· To jibe the region’s R & D/E to the program thrust of the Department; and
· To encourage entrepreneur-ship and processing of produce through value-
added R & D/E activities.


Functions/Services

1. Research and Development
· Implement adaptive and applied researches on crops and livestock
2. Production and Field Operations
· Produce high quality seeds and planting materials, and Trichogramma for
corn;
· Establish and maintain foundation groves of high value crops, upgraded
breeds of cattle, native chicken, and selected quality species of
forage legumes
3. Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation of R & D/E projects in the region
4. Training and Technical Support
· Conduct training programs for research and extension workers on latest
technological innovations
· Serve as venue for trainings, seminars, workshops, and conferences
· Provide information and technology services
5. Supervise and monitor Research Outreach Stations and attached facilities in

the region.
